Leighann McCready, Jaysley Beck’s mum, on International Women’s Day

08th Mar 2025
Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and courage of women everywhere. But for me and my eldest daughter, Emilli, today carries an even deeper meaning.
We stand in honour of Jaysley-Louise Beck our daughter, a sister, a young woman whose voice was taken from her. A voice that should have been heard. A voice that we will never stop fighting for.
Jaysley was more than just a young woman with dreams, laughter, and love to give – she was someone who should have been protected, supported, and listened to. But her voice was silenced. And that is why, today and every day, we will continue to fight for her, to fight for justice, and to fight for every woman who has been unheard, dismissed, or let down.
We are determined to ensure that no woman, whether in the Armed Forces or anywhere else, feels alone, unheard, or without a safe place to speak. We will stand against silence. We will stand for change. We will stand for Jaysley.
To every woman reading this: your voice matters. Your feelings are valid. Your story deserves to be told. Speak up. Stand tall. And know that we are fighting alongside you.
For Jaysley. For Emilli. For every woman who deserves to be heard.
